Reviewing plan written by_____________________________________
Directions for Peer Commentary on Lesson Drafts
-
Read the plan as though you were a substitute teacher. Make sure that the
purposes and procedures are clear and thoroughly explained. Ask: if you
were to conduct the lesson, what additional information or directions would
you need.
-
Pay particular attention to sections labeled "discussion," "individual
work," "writing," or "group work". What specific questions will be discussed? What
writing done? Etc.
-
Using your knowledge of the context (grade. type of class. etc.—which should
be clearly spelled out), anticipate how students might react to the materials,
activities, and questions. How would you react if you were a student
participating in this lesson? Feed back some of the anticipated reactions
to the writer.
-
Decide whether the activities fit the stated aims and context.
-
The evaluation plan should match the stated purposes, too. Ask yourself
whether the writer has identified clear enough criteria to indicate whether
the students have achieved the stated goals. If you don't know quite what
to be looking for in students' performance when finished, elicit this information
from the writer.
-
Consider whether the plan is consistent with principles of learning we
have discussed so far. Suggest annotations the writer can make to point
out the appropriateness of the plan, if necessary.
Use
the back of this sheet to jot your reactions to the plan. Your commentary
should be between one half page and one page long.
Typing is not necessary. Be prepared to discuss the plan with your partner on Monday.
Writer:
Attach this sheet to the last page of the final draft when you submit it.
Writer's
statement:
The
person named above has read my plan and commented helpfully on it.
(Signed,)
