Field Study—English
Relevant sections of the Pre-Clinical Handbook provide information about policies, roles, and responsibilities.
Specific responsibilities for field-study students will vary, depending on who is supervising the field study for UW-Whitewater. Consult your supervisor for further information. In general, students should expect to take on full teaching responsibility, including planning and assessment, though the speed at which students assume teaching responsibility depends on the situation and the cooperating teacher's judgment. Any plans and materials developed in field study can be used to fulfill requirements for the methods class and the portfolio.
Cooperating teachers: the section of the Handbook on recommended activities and the one on the professional [methods] block, which discusses the roles of student teacher, cooperating teacher, and supervisor, have been informative for teachers new to the program.
Copies of the
evaluation
form to be used by field-study cooperating teachers are available at the
Curriculum
and Instruction department forms web site.
Phase 3 Portfolio materials are also available online at the
Curriculum
and Instruction department forms web site. Available forms
include complete Phase 3 guides for students and supervisors as well as rubrics
for the portfolio narrative, the philosophy statement, and artifacts
representing each Wisconsin Standard for Teacher Development and Licensure. Students in
field study may ask their cooperating teachers or supervisors to rate specific
performances using one or more of the rubrics so that related artifacts may be included in the
student's Phase 3 portfolio.
