As part of your training in my studio, you will be required to prepare at least one standard trombone solo to be performed each semester. Depending on your emphasis, abilities, and interests, you may be required to prepare many more. The standard non-jazz repertoire for the trombone is vast indeed. Over the years, some pieces have become more standard to program than others. Therefore, I will guide your literature requirements with all these things in mind. If you'd like to see what other students around the country are programming on their recitals, the ITA Journal ["Recitals" section] is a great resource. For information on joining ITA, see our ITA Info page. I suggest that you browse through the following literature lists, buy some recordings, and develop some favorites for us to consider. As your studio teacher, I must approve any solo before it can be one of the assigned semester pieces.
