Steve Wiest Accepts New Position at the University of North Texas
Many thanks to all of you who have heard the news and have sent me your best wishes. It is indeed true that I have accepted a new teaching position at The University of North Texas. I will be teaching jazz composition and jazz trombone. I have long felt that UNT has the best jazz program in the world and I am thrilled to be "coming back home" as a part of one of the hippest jazz scenes in the business! I will have many more updates as things develop, but I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone and to let any and all interested folk know about this exciting new job. I have also enjoyed working with the many fine students of trombone over the years here at UW-Whitewater. A search is now underway for a one year replacement for me that will be followed by a full time tenure-track trombone position. I'm sure that exciting things are in the future for trombone at UWW and I invite you to stay in touch with Dr. Mike Allsen (Chair of the UWW Music Dept and a great bass trombonist!)
to keep track of all the changes. Dr. Allsen's email is: allsenj@uww.edu
Peace,
Steve Wiest: April, 2007

We made this picture at the beginning of Fall Semester 2004 by putting all of the studio trombones on the floor of the UWW Center of The Arts and then taking a shot from the second floor. Beautiful eh?

Joe Alessi and Wycliffe Gordon
The Joe Alessi Seminar 2005
Trombone great Joe Alessi puts together seminars all around the world where he works with an elite number of great students of trombone, professional and collegiate on a number of topics. He is often joined by jazz great Wycliffe Gordon in these multi-day sessions. Edwards instruments recently ran an on-going column in their news section that gave a daily report on the most recent seminar in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Check out the comments from Joe as he worked with these great trombonists on their music. It is priceless info!
