Hi! My name is Katie Plovanich. I am a music education major here at  UW-Whitewater. My hometown is Kenosha, but I call Whitewater home as well. I have achieved much with my trombone. In high school I made the State Honors jazz band twice and I was section leader at my high school for all four
years.

Since coming to Whitewater I have had the opportunity to be in a wide variety of ensembles. I been a member of the Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band every semester that I have been here. I have also participated in Jazz Labs, Trombone Choir, Marching Band, the Opera Pit, the Musical Pit and two brass quintets.

However, probably the most exciting thing I have gotten to do regarding ensembles is being a founding member of the Trombone Zone. We are a 5-6 person jazz trombone group with rhythm section that is beginning its second year of existence. This year we have the honor of performing at the WMEA State Music Convention.

Another exciting thing that I was able to do in my time here is go to England twice with the wind ensemble. The first time was over spring break in 2004, and the second time will be coming up at the end of October/beginning of November when we return as invited guests to the International Festival of Winds at Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.

Over the summer I also got immersed in the world of New Orleans style brass band music. I am currently playing
with two area bands-the So Called Brass Band and Kingpin Brass Band.

I have a few ideas of what I would like to do in life. I know that someday I would like to teach high school band, but I am also interested in going to grad school to pursue other aspects of music. In addition to music I enjoy reading, hanging out with friends and I know how to juggle.

You should come to UW-Whitewater to study trombone because Mr. Wiest is an awesome teacher, and the studio is full of good players that not only play well together, but
can also hang out and have fun too.
