for Pooley Foundation Award Applications
Robert
C. Pooley Research Award
The
amount available for research awards in 2007 is $2,000. Proposals for
research which will benefit the teaching of the English language arts
in Wisconsin and the nation may be submitted for any amount up to this
limit.
Application Procedure

for the research

Other
information:
-
Awards
are open to teachers (individuals or groups) at any
level—elementary, secondary, college. Action research proposals
are encouraged.
-
Research
in progress and supported by other funds is not excluded.
Researchers should acknowledge other support and indicate reason
for requesting additional funds.
-
Awarded
funds must be used for purposes directly connected with the
research—materials, secretarial assistance, research assistance,
etc.
-
Up
to $500 may be used as a stipend to the researcher.
-
Awards
cannot include travel to meetings or capital equipment.
-
Applicants
must agree that, if the results of their research are published,
they will give full acknowledgment to the support of the
foundation and WCTE.
-
The
applicant must furnish the foundation board with a report of the
results of the research and agree that such a report may be
printed, in full, or in part, in WCTE publications.
-
The
research should be completed in the academic year following the
date of the award, but special extensions may be granted upon
application.
-
Two-thirds
of the award amount is payable upon acceptance, one-third upon
submission of the final report.

The
essay should describe the teaching project and be written in a style
suitable for publication. A project is defined as a single lesson, a
unit, or a continuing specific approach to teaching.

research applications are reviewed by the elected Board of Trustees of
the Foundation. All other applications are reviewed by subcommittees
appointed by the Board.
