*News and Events* *Literacy and Learning: A World of Possibilities* is the theme of the 2008 WCTE Convention, to be held at the Pyle Center on the UW Campus in Madison on October 3. Mark your calendar, and REGISTER NOW for the convention. Outstanding Student Teachers and Beginning Teacher Named The 2007-2008 winners of the WCTE Outstanding Student Teacher award and the Nancy Hoefs Award for an Outstanding Beginning Teacher have been announced. WCTE offers awards and grants to support innovative and excellent teaching and classroom research. Also, each year WCTE honors outstanding beginning teachers, first-year teachers, and defenders of free speech, and nominates Wisconsin's High School English Teacher of Excellence. About WCTE Membership Awards and Grants WCTE—The Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English—is a nonprofit organization of English Language Arts professionals. Elizabeth Kahn, author of Talking in Class, addresses WCTE Convention in Middleton last November.
