Literacy and Learning: A World of Possibilities
is the theme of the 2008 WCTE Convention, to be held at the Pyle Center on the UW Campus in Madison on October 3. Mark your calendar, and REGISTER NOW for the convention.

Outstanding Student Teachers and Beginning Teacher Named
The 2007-2008 winners of the WCTE Outstanding Student Teacher award and the Nancy Hoefs Award for an Outstanding Beginning Teacher have been announced.

WCTE offers awards and grants to support innovative and excellent teaching and classroom research.  Also, each year WCTE honors outstanding beginning teachers, first-year teachers, and defenders of free speech, and nominates Wisconsin's High School English Teacher of Excellence. WCTE—The Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English—is  a nonprofit organization of English Language Arts professionals. Everything found on this website is offered free for public use. When you purchase any of our publications or pay membership fees, all proceeds go directly to support the work of the organization.

 



 
Elizabeth Kahn, author of Talking in Class, addresses WCTE Convention in Middleton last November. Over 200 English teachers attended 20+ sectional presentations and listened to keynotes by Kahn, Jerry Apps, Kym Buchanan, and Timothy Lensmire.

Madison Senior wins State Poetry Recitation Contest: Matthew Scales of Memorial High School will be representing Wisconsin in the national Poetry Out Loud finals in Washington, April 27-30.  

English Teacher Listserv: The Department of Public Instruction now sponsors englishk16, an unmoderated email discussion group just for teachers of English in Wisconsin.  Become eligible to post messages, and receive copies of all messages posted, by following the Listserv subscription instructions at this site.
