North-West Cultural Region

Geography: drainage Geography is fundamental to understanding European integration. The North-West cultural region lies predominently within the watershed of the Rhine River and the Baltic Sea into the North Sea.

Culture:The watershed regions were highly relevant to formation of the the four main language groups: Latin, Germanic, Slavonic, and Turkic. The predominent language of the North-West Culture Region is Germanic. See Map 6: language,

Alphabet is at times a political compromise between language and religion, and provides just a three-way split between Latin, Cyrillic/Greek, and Arabic. The predominent alphabet of the North-West is Latin. See map 7: alphabet.

Religion: Equally fundamental is the four-way division of Europe by religion: Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, and Islam. The predominent relgion of the North-West is Protestant See Map 5: religion

North-East Cultural Region

Geography: drainage Geography is fundamental to understanding European integration. The North-East cultural region lies predominently within the watersheds of the Dniester, Dniepr, Don and Volga Rivers and the Caspian and Black Seas.

Culture:The watershed regions were highly relevant to formation of the the four main language groups: Latin, Germanic, Slavonic, and Turkic. The predominent language of the North-East Culture Region is Slavonic. See Map 6: language,

Religion: Equally fundamental is the four-way division of Europe by religion: Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, and Islam. The predominent relgion of the North-East is Orthodox Christian. See Map 5: religion

South-West Cultural Region
