People may wonder why a librarian would want to be on Facebook. Many librarians, myself included, believe it's just another way to connect with users. We work to serve our patrons, and providing that virtual space on social networking sites like Facebook put a person with a place. Add me as a friend, send me a question, write on my wall - all communication is welcome.
Along the same lines as shedding the librarian stereotype, we also want to prove that we can adapt to a changing world. I feel that a blog offers another point of interaction out of the physical library space and sends the message that there's more to us than meets the eye.
Del.icio.us gives me the opportunity to present a set of web links in a (hopefully) more useful manner than just a long list of links. I'm going to be experimenting with this over the next few months and see what I can do with it.
I love using AIM to help people - it's a program that a lot of people already use and/or can easily access from anywhere. I plan on being online when ever I can, not just from 8 AM to 5 PM, but maybe more. Add me to your buddy list - uwwbizlibraryguy - got a question about business? Just ask.
