Grading Criteria
1.) Attendance is expected and will be a necessary part of
successful
completion of this course, given the strong emphasis on class
discussion
and interaction. If you have an excused absence or if you are ill,
please
contact me, either in person or through email, to let me know about
your
absence (15%).
2.) Students will be expected to periodically write short papers
concerning
different aspects or issues identified with the work of each
philosopher
throughout the course of the semester. These response papers will make
up
the bulk of the grade earned for the class (65%).
3.) At the end of the semester, either individually or in pairs,
students
will do a short in-class presentation on the relevance (or irrelevance)
of
some aspect of a philosopher's thought to a current political
situation.
