Course objectives:
Students should understand the duties and required skills of managers of non-profit arts organizations, as well as those of volunteers and members of the Board of Directors.

Attendance is necessary and mandatory. A student’s final grade will be lowered one letter grade for every three unexcused absences.

You will post at least one thoughtful discussion response each week by Wednesday for full participation credit that week. If there is no response that week, it will be counted against the participation grade. Additional responses will boost participation grade. · A high quality response contains information from the textbook or other valid source, applies a concept from the text in a meaningful way, and demonstrates understanding of the course material.
Board project
You
will participate in a Board meeting, role playing a character I will assign
you. This character will participate in a committee that will present a
report to the full Board.
Grant writing project
You will be part of a group that will write a grant for a cultural organization. Final package will include the grant proposal, background information gathered to write proposal and support materials.
Case Study
You will evaluate a nonprofit organization, analyzing the overall management, the board of directors, human resources, marketing, fundraising, financial and technical management, strategic planning and programming.
