Course parameters: Course work will be assessed Monday through Sunday. Work must be handed in Sunday by 5:00 p.m. to be on time. Plan to spend approximately four hours/week reading, responding and doing assignments (two credit course: two hours/credit). Assignments not turned in on time will be graded more critically. Please get them turned in on time, so your grade will not be negatively impacted! This course will use the Desire2Learn program, which can be accessed under the Quick Links section of the UWW home page.
Required texts: Assigned readings will be available online; you will be able to print them out if you prefer to read them on paper.
Course objectives: Students should understand the duties and required skills of managers of non-profit arts organizations, as well as those of volunteers and members of the Board of Directors
Grading
policy:
100—92% A
91—83% B
82—70% C
69—60% D
<60% F
Assignments:
Weekly assignments will be posted in Desire2Learn
Weekly discussion board responses (questions will be posted on Desire2Learn):
Students will take turns serving as the
discussion board facilitator for these weekly discussion forums. This will mean
you are responsible for setting out issues and questions regarding the readings
for the rest of the class. (The order of facilitation will be alphabetical by
last name. Contact Megan Matthews with any questions about this process.) Other
class members will be responsible to read postings by facilitators and
contribute to the conversation by posting questions or comments.
Students must post at least one thoughtful discussion response by Thursday at 5:00
for full participation credit that week. If there is no response that week, it
will be counted against the participation grade. The discussion boards will
remain up for the whole semester, and you are encouraged to return to previous
topics to raise new issues and make reference to new information as the course
unfolds. Additional responses will boost participation grade. A high quality
response contains information from the textbook or other valid source, applies a
concept from the text in a meaningful way, and demonstrates understanding of the
course material.
Proposal for Support: Students will write a corporate support proposal for a program. Materials will include the final proposal and supporting material you used in creating the proposal.
