Short Biography & Professional Credentials
A full time instructor at University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, Knabe earned her Master's Degree from UW - Milwaukee in Mass Communications with a public relations and crisis communications emphasis. Her bachelor's degree is from Marquette University, where she majored in Public Relations. She is also a graduate of the Department of Defense Information School (DINFOS) Public Affairs program. Currently, Knabe is working on an interdisciplinary PhD at Marquette University, specializing in public relations, distance education and psychology.
Knabe previously taught Public Relations at UW-Milwaukee and Introduction to Reserve Public
Affairs at DINFOS. She has also taught Public Speaking at UW-Rock County, and has held Crisis
Communication and Spokesperson training courses through Public Relations Society of America and for various military groups.
Knabe is universally accredited in public relations (APR) by the Public Relations Society of America.
She is an active member of the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter of PRSA, and co-chairs the chapter’s
Accreditation Committee in addition to serving on the Board of Directors. Knabe also serves on PRSA's national Military and Public Safety executive board.
She earned “Best of Show” twice in the Southeastern Wisconsin PRSA chapter’s Paragon Awards program. She was also awarded seven Paragon Excellence and Merit awards for various PR programs and tactics in the last five years.
Knabe is the International Secretary for NATO’ Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers (CIOR)
Public Affairs Committee. CIOR is NATO's official advisory body on Reserve affairs. Knabe developed the public relations strategic plan for CIOR’s English as a Foreign Language program (now called CIOR Language Academy), a NATO-supported initiative targeting Partnership for Peace Countries seeking democratic ideals and NATO membership. She conducted CIOR EFL public affairs efforts in Estonia and the Czech Republic, and provided public affairs updates at international congresses in Madrid and Berlin.
Holding the rank of “Major,” Knabe is a public affairs officer in the Air Force Reserve. Major Knabe
serves as the Wing Chief of the 440th Public Affairs Office at General Mitchell International Airport Air
Reserve Station, Milwaukee. She plays a key role in the management and implementation of the
440th's internal communications, community relations and media relations programs. Her previous
Public Affairs positions have included Assistant Chief of Public Affairs, public affairs specialist, editor, staff writer and photographer. She volunteers on the national Reserve Officers Association Public Affairs Committee, and serves as the Public Affairs Director for Wisconsin Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.
Knabe was named the top “Air Force Reserve Public Affairs officer” for the Year 2003 and 1998. In
the last five years, Knabe’s public affairs office has earned more than a dozen different national level
public affairs awards.
