Updated April 7, 1998

Phew!

Finally, an update! Thank you to all of you who volunteered to be reviewers and to those for whom I had books. If you haven't already, click on The Austen Quarterly and check out reviews of --

Cultural Institutions of the Novel, a collection of essays edited by Dierdre Lynch and William B. Warner and reviewed by Rachel Ramsey;

Jane Austen: a life, written by Claire Tomalin and reviewed by Jean Brushfield;

Jane Austen: Obstinate Heart written by Valerie Grosvenor Myer and Jane Austen: A Life, written by David Nokes, both reviewed by Elvira Casal.

Email the reviewers when you're done to let them know what you thought of their work.

If you've missed an issue of JANEws or the Quarterly, we've archived them so you can take a look even after we've updated. They're at

facstaff.uww.edu/langlit/JAusten/archives.htm

We've provided links to the archives from both the Quarterly's and JANEws' homepages and current offerings.

A note: most of you will already have discovered this, but we are posted at a new address. Part of the delay in updating the site has been occasioned by server problems here at UW- Whitewater. Their resolution has resulted in the new address -- so change your bookmarks to:

facstaff.uww.edu/langlit/JAusten

Our server-mistress has put a note at the old site, but changing your bookmark will obviously get you to the page faster.

As always... Call for reviewers and writers:

We are interested in recruiting people who would like to review books we are starting to get in -- everything from fiction based on Austen novels to critical works. As is customary, you will be able to keep the book(s) you review -- a good way to build up a library! Email us at

hipchene@uwwvax.uww.edu

if you think you'd be interested, and specify the sort of thing you might like to read.

We could also use people willing to write for the site. If you want to contribute an article and need information, please contact Emily Hipchen via email at the address above. Articles should be under 5,000 words. Send your entry via email to the address above, or by post to Emily Hipchen, Department of Languages and Literatures, 435 Heide Hall, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Whitewater, WI 53190. You may send disks formatted for either Macintosh or IBM (IBM preferable), in a word processing program compatible with WordPerfect 6.0. To be safe, you may want to save your work in an ASCII DOS text file. Citations should be either MLA style or Chicago Manual style.

Be sure to let us know what you think of the site, or what you'd like to see (or what you can't see because the colors aren't set right). Thanks for your interest, and you may be excited to know that we still don't want any dues yet. :)

Thanks again for visiting the page!

Emily Hipchen, site maintainer University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
