Norway - July, 2003

I spent just over two weeks in Norway; first visiting family south of Oslo then taking a trip across the country to Bergen by train. In Bergen I got on the Norwegian coastal express known as the "Hurtigruten" (check out their website) and took the MS Trollfjørd all the way up the coast to within 15 miles of Russia. We passed the arctic circle on day 3 of our 6 day voyage that made 34 ports of call along the coast. Highlights included the midnight sun and 24 hours of daylight, spectacular fjørds and mountains, small towns and fishing villages, and eating lots and lots of fish. Here are few pictures from the trip:

Dzibilchaltun, Yucatan, Mexico

Dzibilchaltun means "the place where there's writing on the stones." It is located near Merida on the way to the north coast of Yucaan. I got there by bus from Progreso. It is one of the major centers of Mayan culture in Yucatan with the first constructions dating around 500 BC. I saw a very tiny part of the over 8,400 stuructures, many of which are not excavated. These pictures are of the Temple of the Seven Dolls and the central courtyard area.

Canadian Rockies

In August of 2002 I flew into Calgary, Alberta and drove to Jasper, stopping in Banff and Lake Louise along the Icefields Parkway. I then took the Rocky Mountaineer train from Jasper to Vancouver. It was beautiful! Here are some highlights:
