Music

In performance, Matt (saxophones) both responds to and controls electronics and video, depending on the nature of each specific piece. Likewise, Jeff (electronics) responds to and manipulates the saxophone sounds using custom algorithms written in Max/MSP/Jitter in combination with dedicated electronic controllers.

Sonict's current program includes works by a combination of composers, video artists, and filmmakers, including PerMagnus Lindborg (Norway/Singapore) and Len Lye (New Zealand), Carter Williams (USA/Germany), Lei Liang (China/USA), Jim Vannes, Heidi E. Johnson, byting/nobiting (JT Rinker and Carolyn Tennant), and Jeff Herriott. In 2009-2010 we will be working with new composers, including Cort Lippe, on new pieces to add to our repertoire. We are very interested in the integration of improvisation into performance, an element that features strongly in several of the works on the program.

Tusalava, music by PerMagnus Lindborg (1999/2005), animation by Len Lye (1929)
barn work, music by Jeff Herriott, video by Heidi E. Johnson (2007)
