I AM WORKING ON the following composition projects:
• a new piece for the Ancia Saxophone Quartet. In summer 2009, I will live in Ely, up near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, making field recordings in the BWCA to be used as part of the piece. The project is being funded by the McKnight Visiting Composer Residency program and the Jerome Composers Commissions Program.
Some of my other projects include:
• the sonict duo, my group with saxophonist Matt Sintchak which features works with saxophone, video, and electronic performer. We have performed at a variety of venues, including Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center (Buffalo), UW-Milwaukee, the Stone (NYC), Eastman School of Music (Rochester), Third Practice Festival (3P), Kansas City Art Institute, La Esquina (Kansas City), Iowa State University, SEAMUS National Conference, and other university settings. In 2009-2010, we will be holding residencies at Lawrence University and Ithaca College.
• working with the Sonict Ensemble at UW-Whitewater. We currently perform 6-8 concerts a year as part of the series, including 2 by the group plus several visiting artist concerts. In 2009-10, our guests include the Ancia Saxophone Quartet and saxophonist Jon Amon. We will also be presenting two video works concerts and a concert with music selected from our call for scores.
• improvisations with sleep walks, an audio-visual show that airs weekly on WYOU-Madison, channel 991. This project includes audio created by Eric Sheffield and me, along with video created by Heidi. E. Johnson, Eric Allin, and sometimes other guests.
Upcoming and recent performances of my work include:
• October 10, 2009 performance of dissipation of a thought by Due East, at the SCI Region V conference in Dubuque, IA.
• November 1/2/3/5, 2009 performances of the well of echoes by the The Ant's Elbow Duo project (Michael Straus and Griffin Campbell) at LSU, Southeastern Louisiana University, the Blue Nile, and Nicholls State University.
• November 14, 2009 performance of window: a vision in multiple stages by Andrea Cheeseman, at the Electroacoustic Juke Joint in Cleveland, MS.
I'll be performing improv the night before at Po' Monkeys as well.
• December 6, 2009 performance by my group, The Sonict Duo, at Ithaca College, including performance of my pieces barn work and instances (version with video).
• January 28, 2010 performance by my group, The Sonict Duo, at Lawrence University, including lots of new work created by the duo.
• March 29, 2010 performance of a new piece for the Ancia Saxophone Quartet, at UW-Whiteater.
