Minutes: General Management Advisory Committee

October 19, 2007

 

The 927 committee was renamed the Management Department Networking Committee (this was done previous to 10/19/07)

 

New committee members will include Praveen Parboteeah, Alyssa Ellie, Dean Nelson, Ryan Leslie, Amanda Fenley, Matt Tresp, Ali Prinsen, Mike Kumar and a member from SAM.

 

I will become less active taking on a kind of consulting role because I am on Sabbatical next semester, and I’ve encouraged Jeff, Jamie, and Monica to do same, in large part because they’ve worked hard and have done a tremendous job and deserve a break.  

 

Vicki, Lucas, Jennifer, Amy and/or Lamont from APICS should continue to participate

 

We decided to have a networking event similar to the one September 27, 2007,and it is likely to take place Fall 2008.  Although not set in stone, the meeting will:

            *Essentially have the same purpose

            * be shorter

*be more organized in the beginning, either have an organized networking between students and advisors or a ice breaker

* have everyone in the same session; there will be no dividing people into separate sessions

 

We decided to have a professional event sometime early next semester, an event focused on careers, networking and/or the transition between school and work.

 

There will be a General Management curriculum review.  The advisory committee will conduct the review coordinated by Vicky Brown and Dean Nelson. The advisory committee itself will review the curriculum and make suggestions.  In addition the advioryMinutes101907.html committee will obtain student opinions and report those. It is likely that advisory committee members will conduct sessions with students during general management classes.

 

The ‘new’ MDNC will meet 10/29 6:15 in the COBE faculty lounge NW corner 5th floor Carlson building.  Its purpose is to begin planning the career related event to take place early in the Spring Semester 2008.  Anyone interested is invited to attend.
