Persons interested in submitting manuscripts for possible inclusion in
Racial Issues in Criminal Justice: The Case of African Americans,
a book of readings to be edited by Marvin D.Free, Jr., should carefully
read the following:
Racial Issues in Criminal Justice:
The Case of African Americans will be published by Praeger (an imprint
of Greenwood Publishers, Inc.) in their series Criminal Justice, Delinquency,
and Corrections. The series editors, Marilyn McShane and Frank Williams
III, are from Prairie View A&M University.
As editor of this book, I am interested
in research that examines racial issues using a critical criminology perspective.
Both qualitative and quantitative works are welcomed and
will receive equal consideration. Although I will consider previously
published materials in this area, I am primarily looking for original manuscripts.
In particular, I am interested in manuscripts that investigate the following
areas:
-
Racial profiling by the police.
-
Police use of excessive force in African American communities.
-
The impact of 3-strikes legislation on African Americans.
-
The impact of state sentancing guidelines on African Americans.
-
The impact of voir dire on African American representation
on juries.
-
The impact of race on sentancing.
-
Is the death penalty racist?
-
Has the lowering of the age for waiver into adult court differentiall
affected African American youth?
-
Is restorative justice just another form of white-based justice?
-
Will the use of drug courts further exacerbate racial disparity
in prison?
-
Do African American police and/or judges make a difference?
-
Jury nullification and the over-representation of African
Americans in prisons.
While this list is not meant to be exhaustive,
it does represent areas that have been tentatively targeted for inclusion
in the anthology. Nevertheless, any work that systematically examines
an area of racial disparity/discrimination in the juvenile justice and/or
criminal justice systems will be carefully screened for possible use. |
