Faculty Profile: Jolly Emrey
Although
Professor Jolly Emrey is completing her second year at UW-Whitewater,
she is still the "new" faculty member in the Department
of Political Science. Professor Emrey, who has specialty areas

Student
Internship Opportunities Explained
For
several years, the Political Science Department internship program
has grown to include more and more opportunities for students
to complete internships as part of their study of government,
law and politics. On average, 15-20 students complete unpaid
internships for credit every fall, spring and summer term. In
our Public Policy and Administration Program, Legal Studies
minor and Paralegal Certificate Program, students are required
to complete an internship. In our other programs, our students
are strongly encouraged to complete an internship.
Students
who complete internships receive very valuable practical experience
working in a number of different areas. The examples discussed
below are only a small sample of the internships that our students
have completed recently. (more)

Travel
Opportunities to Mexico and China Now Available in Political
Science
The
Political Science Department now has two travel-study courses
for students. One of these explores the impact of globalization
on Mexico with travel to the state of Oaxaca. The other introduces
students to the politics and society of China.
The
course to Mexico is PoliSci/Soc/Spanish 491/691, "Mexico
- Globalization." This course was taught most recently
by Charles Cottle, Political Science, and Jo Ellen Burkholder,
Sociology/Anthropology, in the fall 2006 semester. This course
traveled to Mexico during the spring break in March 2007. The
next offering of the course will be fall 2007. Students who
are interested in this course should see the course
Web page.
The
second course is a travel-study which will leave for China at
the end of the spring 2008 semester. This will be the second
offering for this course. (more)

Lobbying
Certificate Now Available to Students
National
and state scandals have taken their toll on the reputation of
lobbyists and have led to questions about their role in the
political system. In spite of these real concerns, interest
groups play a central role in the American polity. In order
to reflect this new interest in the role of lobbyists in the
political system and to rehabilitate the role of advocacy in
the political system, the department of Political Science now
offers a Lobbying Certificate.
