LIFE OFF CAMPUS

Huffing and Puffing

Have participated in many indoor triathlons (medaled in some of the events) in the Milwaukee area; in August 2002 participated in first outdoor triathlon, an AARP/Triumph race (for those over 50!) in Madison; also have participated in fun runs in Milwaukee, from the Bastille Run (3.1 miles) to Al’s Run (5 miles) and if I can, I try to train for the 15K (9.3miles) Lake Discovery Run (along Lake Michigan/Lake Front/Milwaukee in November.  I have participated in biathlons (run/bike)  in Whitewater and very recently, I've started to train for the July '07 Olympic Distance Triathlon in New York City.

Greens of Dreams

Dreamt I might enter the Senior PGA (professional golf association) but alas, I can barely get the ball to sail more than 170 yards, and that’s only after a lot of practice.  Have been golfing with a friend for over 15 years on mostly Milwaukee County golf courses, but my scores are still amazingly high.  Friends have advised that I not give up my day job.

A Menagerie of Wild Beasts

In our home, I am the zookeeper for a variety of soft and live pets, including a Siamese cat, an entire dining room of rabbits on dishware, china, and tea sets, as well as countless rabbits in all shapes of furry sizes and colors, and a jungle of wild animals including panthers, lions, giraffes, elephants, camels, and a Hindu god named Nandi {a sitting Brahma bull] who protects all four-footed creatures, and as you might imagine, they all keep me busy, especially with daily feedings and cat box duty.

Backyard Gazing

When not teaching, or grading, or preparing lectures, my wife and I enjoy our small forest and garden backyard, look for bargains at antique and resale shops, attend theater and ballet productions, and save up pennies for future travels.
