351- Paper/Project Guidelines

Paper 1-

Your paper should be 5-7 typed, double-spaced pages. Your task is to look at an analog game that you find to be interesting/compelling/immersive and analyze it using the criteria listed on the criteria sheet and perspectives from class discussions, readings and presentations. Think about how and why the game is fun. What are the elements necessary for the gameplay and the experience of fun? If you want to, you could discuss how the game would be different as a digital game. Look critically at the content, interface, usability and modes of representation. Think about the role of the game in society. What do players come away from the experience of the game with? If you feel, or your instructor informs you, that you need help with your writing, please call the Writing Tutorial Services (855-6738) and make an appointment. If you have any questions about whether or not your writing is acceptable, I STRONGLY encourage you to submit your paper to me before the due date so that we can give you suggestions and help you make your paper stronger.

Attribution includes name of the author, and year of publication. If the sources are from the Internet, the URL must be included and the date when the site was visited must be included. The attribution should be listed in the paper itself. [Example: "The Internet is slowly becoming accessible to people of low socioeconomic stat us." (Smith, 1999)] Also, remember that when you use direct quotes, you should identify the person or source. [Correct: Microsoft's Bill Gates said "High definition television is the future of the entertainment industry." Incorrect: "High definition television is the future of the entertainment industry."] 3 points
  • Bibliography: At the end of your paper there must be a list of all the sources used. The bibliography should include the following: name of the author, name of article, name of publication where the article appeared, page number and year of publication. You should list the sources alphabetically. The bibliography and citations should be in either MLA or APA format. 2 points

If your paper has more than 5 significant grammatical errors it will be returned to you ungraded. You can resubmit the corrected paper for partial credit, but you will not earn higher than a C on the paper. 2 points
