Digital image editing, formats and compression. Discusson: 2D, 3D, effects of modeling the world, simulations and other dreams. What happens to the concept of authenticity? What is real?

Feel free to come to class with examples from print magazines, or links to web examples.

Paper I due: outline with 3 citations due in class on Wednesday. Your paper must be posted to your website by 10 pm., Tues. Feb 24. A hard copy must be handed in at the beginning of class on Wed Feb 25. Take a look at Derek Richae and Matt Overton's work from previous semesters as examples of good papers.

Read: Skim through all 4 sections of this site. Pay attention to what the best formats are for classical and rock music. What is a bitrate and why does it matter? Digital Audio Formats. Read this and think about the ethics of copying and downloading: A Nation of Copiers. If you are interested in audio, read an explanation of adaptive audio (reading is optional)
